Fall Equals Apples: How about Spiced Apples

How many ways to use fall apples….oh, let me count the ways. Apple sauce, apple butter, baked apples, apple pie, and spiced apples.

Easy Peasy!

For 4 servings:

De core and seed two of your favorite tart apples.

Slice the apples into bite size pieces.

In a saute pan, melt two tablespoons of butter ( or a light oil, not olive oil)

Add 1/4 cup of brown sugar to the hot butter/oil

Add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, a dash of cloves, and a dash of nutmeg. (I use nutmeg nuts and grate a bit into the pan)

1 small pinch of salt

Add the apples

Stir and cover for a few minutes. Remove lid after 2 minutes. Taste the juice, if it is too sweet (apples vary in sweetness), add a squeeze of lemon juice. If it is not sweet enough, add a little more brown sugar.

Stir the apple mixture frequently and reduce until the mixture has become somewhat thick.

When the juice gets a little thick, remove from heat.
